by Santosh Shivan, flawless acting by Rahul Bose and Nandita Das...I would say this movie is similar to "The Painted Vail" by john curran where the fogy mountain, natures, breeze, a welcome feelings. Except shivan has done a little more justice in this film. Before the Rain is based on faithful indian who got betrayed by british, trust, forbidden love, mysterious, romanticism, indians who like to beat there wife, schoolmasters & gandhi who is after the independence of india, each role is chasing after "The Road to the Sky"

Forbidden affair between Nandita (indian women - servant) and Linus (english men - saheb, master) both married. Linus has a kid. Make love outdoor, under the magnificiant waterfall. They are wet under the water. and one day there secret revealed...

Nandita's searching for road to her love she wants to have good husband then her present, Rahul's is confused between two cultures and and thinking the road will be saving his country and people with jobs from saheb(Linus ), Saheb dream is to build the road to the sky...a road to his spices garden so he can do easy business and become more powerful, the schoomaster & gandhis are seeking for road to independence...

"The Road was Never yours" India was never saheb's, saheb was never Nanadita's, rahul was never related to saheb...it's time saheb to go back...and rahul to break the two world's dream and return to his movements. the fight for independence. It's yet confusing where rahul heading in to....in his village still or to the different destination to clean his sin??

The Monsoon play a great fact to build the road to the sky or hold it forever. a contract that Linus signed to accomplish his dream untill the Rain season. Monsoon, will it hold or wash away the dream? in this movie to me the symbol Monsoon uses as to wash the sin away, and give merci to all. Monsoon, Water, Drops, Nature are the Beutiful Purity of this movie. Water that wash your body but sin? can the water wash your sin away too? don't know but this movie make me think...

The director didn't do justice to give this kind of role to nandita das where it was meaningless. he could have done more in to it. Nandita she was a servant and if you closely listen her English she has proper grammar and accent. tell me just by learning from mouth to mouth can speak proper english diction? he should have putting more thoughts in to her scripts.

The background was beautiful, excellent photography, stunning waterfall, rain, tree tops, dew drops, magical nature rhythm, ponds, frog, monsoon, music, you can say a dream place, a little forest, i love love loved it...too beautiful, I only can imagine...It's really pleasent my visual...I have visually satisfied...

Overall all character did excellent job to giving a life to the movie. I had much more expectations...a little disappointing.

After watching this movie questions remain silent, in india still husband are not beating there wife?? are we not all planning to build our road to the sky? are we not all following our dream as much as possible? are we not...
